Parents are encouraged to participate in the program as volunteers in the classroom. Your involvement will build your knowledge of child development and provide you with ideas for activities that you can engage in with your children. Community members are also welcome to volunteer; bring your special skills to the classroom and share them with children.
Head Start volunteers help teachers and staff members engage in the following activities with children:
Art activities |
Play with blocks or table toys |
Read to Children |
Dance to music |
Attend field trips |
Assist with snacks and meals |
Teach children new skills, and about other cultures |
Parents are also encouraged to become involved in quarterly Family Literacy Activities, through Kedren’s involvement with the Reading is Fundamental literacy program. Families will receive free books for their children, and learn to serve as their child’s first teacher, while participating in fun literacy-based activities.
Our new male involvement program will offer many volunteer opportunities and activities for fathers to meet together, and participate in special activities with their children.
Parent volunteers are also invited to become involved in developing the program’s curriculum, or serve on one of our committees, such as health or nutrition. Attend monthly parent committee meetings or become a member of the agency’s Policy Committee. There are many ways to volunteer!
Your volunteer hours will support the agency in achieving its 20% requirement of non-Federal share. Each hour you volunteer helps us to reach our goal.
Parent Volunteers are required to have a T.B. test, and sign the agency’s Standards of Contact, sign a volunteer agreement. Community volunteers must complete a volunteer application.
